In-Person Art Classes for Kids
West Lafayette, Indiana
At Storygalorey, we read great picture books to get inspired to create great art! We use lots of different art supplies and techniques such as drawing, painting, clay, and collage.
Help your elementary and middle school children grow in their love for reading and art through attending our live in-person art classes.
Art supplies and techniques
Storygalorey art classes are designed to help elementary and middle school aged kids explore many different art supplies and techniques. We use tempera paint, watercolor, clay, oil pastels, and more in our classes. Starting with basic drawing and painting skills, we use many materials to accomplish our art objectives. We strive to begin at a child's personal level and take them further in:
- learning about drawing proportionally
- creating texture or form
- learning color theory
Middle school students build their artistic skills learning more advanced watercolor, tempera, and acrylic painting techniques as well as continuing to draw with accuracy.
We also love to create painted paper collage in both age groups.
About the instructor
My name is Jennifer Woodard, and I am passionate about teaching kids' art through picture books. Kids need opportunities to try lots of kinds of art, and connecting that creativity to good children's books strengthens their educational experience.
After getting my degree in elementary school from Wheaton College, then teaching in public elementary school, I semi-retired to educate our five kids at home, during which time I also taught kids' music and art at church extracurricular and homeschool programs.
I started Storygalorey as an unhurried and gentle space for a new generation of children to imagine, discover, and create.
As a Christian art teacher, my mission is to offer a nurturing space where art and literature beautifully intertwine, all from a faith-based perspective.
My classes are designed to support parents in their desire to provide their kids with wholesome, enriching art classes that not only hone their artistic skills but also strengthen their faith and character.
